Steve Reich gave a lecture at Red Bull Music Academy London 2010 (transcript). He talked about wanting a tool for a specific kind of sound manipulation. I was there. I built the tool. For SR — for Steve Reich.
It’s a granular sampling tool in Max/MSP, a heavily modified version of Nobuyasu Sakonda’s Granular patch. Load a sample, pick a point in the waveform, and it creates a looping pad-like sound. Pick two points and control the speed the file is read between them. Play it in reverse at any speed.
Less musical than Kakalak. More artsy fartsy granular manipulation — a studio tool for mangling audio into something new.
